Parish Picnic Trips

Father's Day trip to Staunton Country Park

A local place for a quiet picnic in delightful Hampshire countryside. Beautiful scenery within the country park - once Staunton House Estate. We sat on the terrace which is the only remaining part of the house and ate - with views down the hill towards the lake. After we guessed the biblical character on the gingerbread man we then went to the Gardens and Ornamental Farm.

fastcat france With the Continental Ferry Port just minutes away the Parish takes the opportunity to have an annual day trip to France during the late spring or early summer. We have enjoyed visiting some of the small towns and villages of Normandy, which are within easy reach of the ferry ports to enjoy our picnic of local food and, for those not driving, wine. A shopping stop-off at a hypermarket is a necessary part of the homeward itinerary.

16th May 2009 - Trip to Normandy

Rough weather was the order for this trip. Changes to crossing times and a change of ferry to the slower ferry from Caen meant an abridged trip.

Lunch in Bayeux, revisiting a favourite restaurant - and it was sunny. Before heading back to Caen and a visit to a supermarket and wine store.

Despite being a long trip, most of us retired to the upper deck and the bar. At least there was a reason for the boat to be swaying now!

26th April 2008 - Trip to Bayeux

A perfect day! - Sun shining, water as calm as a mill pond. The smoothest crossing possible.

As the picnic is earlier than normal we had already decided not to have a 'picnic' but use a restaurant. However, Bayeux has a surprise - a restaurant in the open air next to the river!

A vist to the Bayeux Tapestry was next.

With the temperature rising, a chance to sample the local ice cream and stroll leisurely back to the cars before the journey to Cherbourg.

A relaxing wander around the hypermarket, well for some, was next. Stocking up on local food and wine and then spending some time relaxing before the crossing home.

Just after leaving Cherbourg, in a small area of the ferry we held a moving Saturday Mass.

May 2007 - Trip to Arromanches and Bayeux

With the weather and sea rough the decision was taken not to have a picnic but to frequent one of the many cafes in Arromanches for lunch. After which the weather improved.

We then journeyed to Bayeux and looked around the splendid Cathedral and did some window shopping.

Then it was off to the hypermarket before heading to Cherbourg for our return trip home. A calmer crossing to the rollercoaster ride to Caen.
